Another option to recording with Kaltura is Express Capture.
Recording with Express Capture lets you make basic recordings in Kaltura. Unlike Kaltura Classroom and Kaltura Capture, Express Capture does not require the installation of any software on your computer.
You can access Express Capture by clicking the Kaltura Icon in the Rich Content Editor in Canvas.
Important:
- Do not use Express Capture to record lectures. Express Capture is a web-based service, so any interruption in Internet service could corrupt your recording, and it will not be recoverable. Use Express Capture for quick videos that are a few minutes long (such as answers to questions, explanations about how to do a homework problem, providing a review of the week, etc.), and not to record class lectures.
- Express Capture records from your webcam only. It does not record any content you may share on your screen.
When in Canvas you can locate Express Capture by clicking on the Kaltura icon found in te RCE (Rich Content Editor) which is located when editing a page or assignment (Instructor) or when making a discussion post or Text Entry submission (Student)
Once your media window opens you can click on the +Add New button and you should see Express Capture Listed
As mentioned, Express Capture only uses your webcam and should ONLY be used for shorter recordings (2-3 minutes is recommended). You can edit your settings to turn off your webcam or Mic prior to recording by clicking the Red button.
Note: Since this is entirely web based if there is any complications in uploading the file or network connection the video will not be recoverable and you will need ot re-record.
Once the recording is finished you can review it and choose to:
Record Again - if you didn't like the result
Download a Copy - Download a copy of the video to your computer
Use This - If you are ready to add the video to your My Media folder
When you are ready to use the video click the </>Embed button
