Kaltura Video Editor

Kaltura video editor dashboard

  1. Save/Save a Copy – It is always a good practice to use Save a Copy as you will always want to be sure to have your old un-edited version until you are sure you no longer need it as there is no going back if you save over it. Once you are sure your edited version is what you want you can delete any other copies from your Kaltura My Media Page.

  1. Preview Video – This will allow you to review your video as you make your edits so you can confirm them.

  1. Delete delete icon - After you use your slpit tool you can delete an entire section of your video by selecting it on the timeline and then hitting this button.

Fade in/out fade in or fade out icon - Once selected you can have your video fade in or fade out. Just choose how many seconds you want the fade to last and then see how it looks in the preview video until it looks right to you.

  1. Reset reset icon - This will reset all edits you have made to your video and let you start from scratch again. If used accidentally just click the undo button.

Redo redo icon- If you hit the undo button too many times you can click this button to redo an action.

Undo undo icon- Let’s you undo an action you most recently took

Select Audio Macintosh HD:Users:downingt1:Desktop:Screen Shot 2018-10-11 at 2.43.09 PM.png- There is a blue waveform going across your audio to assist you in find point that there is sound or where sound has stopped. If this isn’t useful and you would like to disappear click this button and click Hide Audio

  1. Timeline zoom – The time defaults to a size that fits the screen when you open the editor, so if you have a rather large video it can make finding a specfic point in the video difficult as the slightest movement of the blue slider bar on the timeline can more than you would like. Drag the Timeline Zoom Slider to maximize your timeline to the desired size for ease of editing.

  1. Timeline – This is the timeline of your video the blue slider bar lets you know where you are currently in your video and let’s you know the timestamp if you need to make note of it. You can drag the slider to any point in the video to skip ahead if desired.

  1. Split split icon - This will be the main tool you typically use to remove unwanted sections of video. Example: let’s say you sneezed during a recording of yourself. Move the slider to the point just before the sneeze and click the split tool causing your video to cut in two. Next, play the video until the sneeze is finished but just before you get back to talking about your content and hit the split tool again now giving you three sections in your timeline. Select the section in the middle containing your sneeze (your selection will highlight in an orange border) and hit the delete button (covered in number 3 in this instruction list) your timeline will look something like this:

Note that if you trimmed a little too much off on either end you can select the appropriate footage and drag the orange border over to recreate some of the deleted footage.

Set In set in icon - Use this to when the blue timeline bar is at the point in the timeline you want the video to start. This is handy when the beginning of a recording is of you still setting up and you want to skip to the start of the content.

Set Out set out icon - Use this to when the blue timeline bar is at the point in the timeline you want the video to end. This is handy when at the end of a recording it shows you moving the mouse to stop the recording and you want the video to end once your content ends.

Note: both Set in and Set out affect the selected clip in the timeline so if you have split the footage it will affect the currently selected one.
