Microsoft Office is the premiere office suite of applications. From Outlook to Excel, to Word and PowerPoint, many of us use Microsoft Office to do our everyday work. Whether its editing spreadsheets, crafting a presentation, or responding to email, Microsoft Office is essential.

Installation Instructions

NKU owned devices

Microsoft Office products can be downloaded any time on an NKU-owned machine by the user through Software Self Service.


Personal devices

NKU provides Microsoft Office 365 free for faculty, staff, and current students to install on personally owned computers, as well as phones/tablets.  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and more are available for offline and online use. The licenses terminate automatically if you leave the university.  Office can be installed on up to five compatible Windows and Mac computers and/or tablets (including iPad).

Windows and Mac

  1. Go to NKU Webmail and use the "Webmail Login" link to sign in to your account.
  2. Click the grid button in the upper-left corner.  The apps panel will display and allow you to use various Office applications.  Click "Office 365" in the upper-right corner, which will display recent emails, files, and other communications.

  1. Click the "Install Office" on the right side, then select "Office 365 apps".

  1. This will download a file for installation.  Windows users will receive a pop-up window that will provide instructions to install Office.  Mac users will need to open the download file to install Office.  The file will be named "Microsoft Office installer.pkg", but this may vary slightly.

 

Smartphone/Tablet

  1. Download the Microsoft Office app for your Apple or Android device:

  1. Tap the User icon in the top left.

  1. Tap "Sign in".  Enter your NKU email address.  This will redirect you to the NKU Single Sign On page.  Enter your password and you will be logged in to your NKU account, with access to all files stored in your OneDrive folders.

IT Training offers on-demand, personal training sessions for all faculty and staff.  Sessions can be one-on-one, or with a group.  Contact IT Training to get started.


Microsoft Certification 

NKU IT is a Certiport Testing Center, which means NKU faculty and staff can take Microsoft Certification Exams right here on campus.  We can provide information about Microsoft Certification and assist you in preparing for the exams.  You can also take practice tests in the same format as the actual certification exams.

Below are the available Microsoft Certification exams.  Each page contains links with lists of the specific skills measured on each test.

Any test can be taken individually, and you can also take several exams to receive a Microsoft Office Specialist: Expert certification.  To earn a Microsoft Office Specialist: Expert certification, complete the following requirements:

  • Earn a Microsoft Office Specialist Associate certification by passing three of the following Associate exams:
    • Microsoft Office Specialist: Word Associate (Office 2019)
    • Microsoft Office Specialist: Excel Associate (Office 2019)
    • Microsoft Office Specialist: PowerPoint Associate (Office 2019)
    • Microsoft Office Specialist: Outlook Associate (Office 2019)
       
  • Pass any two of the following three Expert exams:
    • Microsoft Office Specialist: Microsoft Word Expert (Office 2019)
    • Microsoft Office Specialist: Microsoft Excel Expert (Office 2019)
    • Microsoft Office Specialist: Microsoft Access Expert (Office 2019)
