  1. To upload a document or image file to your Canvas account first you will need to Log into Canvas and click on your Account in the upper right corner. Then click the Files button

2. you will come to a screen with your files and documents. You can create a new folder to organize or skip that step and click on the Upload button in the upper right corner. After hitting the Upload button find the file on your computer you wish to add to your account.

3. Next, go into your course to the location you with to add the file. In the example below we will be adding an Image to a discussion board post. We navigated to the discussion and clicked the image icon, and since the image is in our User account we will click on User Images 

NOTE: you can click on the document icon if you would like to add a document instead at this step

4. A window will show on the right side of the screen and default to the selection type you chose (in our case Images). You should see all images within your account at the bottom for you to choose from or you can refine your search to locate the file by typing in the search bar or adjusting the search criteria.

5. Once you click on the image it should show in the discussion thread text box. It is common for the image to seem too large, if you would like to adjust the size click the image and select the Image Options prompt that shows after. (always recommended as it can shorten the time for the image to load for other users when smaller especially when there are many images in the discussion thread).

6.The Image Options window will show on the right. To adjust the size you can manually choose the pixel dimensions OR click on the size chart (shown as Custom by default) and choose amongst the options given and hit done to see how your image looks.

7.Once you have found the size you like (medium was selected in the example below) post your reply as you normally would.
