Disabling HEIC on iOS Devices

By default, iPhones will save pictures taken by the camera in a file format called HEIC. This file format takes up less space on the phone, but does not work on Windows devices, and will negatively impact your ability to share pictures with others. For best interoperability, you will want to disable this feature so that your iPhone saves images as standard JPEG files.

  1. Open the Settings application.
  2. Scroll down to and open the Camera settings.
  3. Open Formats, which should be at the top.
  4. Select Most Compatible instead of High Efficiency.

Photos taken from now on will be in JPEG format.

If you have existing photos that are in HEIC format that you need to convert, reach out to the IT Help Desk or your building's client support specialist to request a batch conversion.
