Dell highly recommends updating the BIOS on certain model laptops to prevent power issues. There are three options to complete this process.

Method 1
If you have the Dell Command Update application installed on your computer, you may run the program and allow it to update the firmware (NOTE: make sure there is a check mark in the box next to "suspend Bitlocker upon reboot" option, if available).
You may click on the this link and click on the BIOS version number for your laptop model . Then expand the list and download the provided BIOS file. When downloaded you may right-click on the file and choose run as administrator to begin the install process. You should verify the “suspend Bitlocker upon reboot” option is selected (if available) before rebooting running the program.
Implementation Procedure
This issue impacts one or more of your Dell Technologies Systems.
Locate the list of affected platforms and latest BIOS using the recommended method below:
- Go to the following link to identify affected platforms: BIOS Update Documentation
- Click on "Resolving BIOS or later revision" link next to your computer model
- Manually select the Find drivers drop down
- Under Category, select BIOS
- Download the platform specific BIOS and Save the File to Your Computer
- Open File Explorer and Browse to the Location where You Saved the File
- Double-Click the BIOS Setup File and Follow the On-Screen Instructions to Complete the Installation Process
You can go to https://Dell.com/support enter your Dell service tag (found on the bottom of the laptop) or Dell laptop model (Ex: Latitude 5520) and click on update drivers.
You will be asked to identify your product by entering the service tag code in the search box and press the search button.
You should see an image of your machine type. In the “access the complete list of drivers and downloads section” you will need to expand the list by clicking on visit list.
Select and download the appropriate BIOS from the list presented, (the newest should be near the top of the list). When the download is completed right-click on the file and select run as administrator.
Please ensure your machine has an AC wall power supply and 10% or greater battery life when utilizing a laptop.
Your machine will reboot and go through several black screens with various messages from DELL. This may take several minutes and may exceed 5 minutes and multiple restarts before rebooting to a Windows logon screen. During this method you will also need to make sure there is a check mark in the box next to "suspend Bitlocker upon reboot" option, if available.
