This article details how to use your VMs in Proxmox.
1. Prerequisite Information
To access your VMs, please see this article for details.
2. Starting Your VMs
There are two ways to start your VM.
2a. Right-click Method
Right-click your VM when it is listed in a pool or the search bar results, then select Start.
2b. Console Method
Left-click your VM when it is listed in a pool, then select Console from its menu.
The VM's screen should then load on the right. If the VM is off, you have the option to start it from this screen by pressing Start Now.
- NOTE: It may have to press this multiple times for the VM to start.
3. Stopping Your VMs
By default, your VMs will automatically power on after you shut down the operating system due to Proxmox's high availability feature.
If you need to keep them off, right-click the VM from the Pool list or search bar results, then select Stop.
4. Sending Ctrl + Alt + Delete
Some VMs (particularly Windows) will require you to send Ctrl + Alt + Delete key combination; however, you cannot use these keys on your keyboard to do this. Instead, click on the rectangle on the left with a right-facing triangle:
After this, select the Show Extra Keys button (the square with the letter A in it), then select the icon with the three dots (representing Ctrl + Alt + Delete). To make this menu disappear, click on the rectangle with the triangle in it again.
5. Managing VM Display
If you need to increase the size of your VM's display, please use one of the following methods to do so.
5a. Activating Full Screen
To activate full-screen mode for a VM, press the rectangle with the triangle in it, then press the Full Screen button (the two arrows in the square).
To exit full-screen mode, press the Esc key on your keyboard.
5b. View VM in Separate Tab
To view a VM in a separate tab, click on the Console drop-down menu above the VM (to the left of More) and select NoVNC.
After clicking this, a duplicate screen of the VM is opened in a new browser window. To convert the window to a browser tab, right-click the top of the browser window and select Show as Tab.
